The Grundtvig multilateral project DeTALES derives its rationale from this statement and investigates the impact of EU enlargement focusing on the recently added member states in particular on how they have integrated into the EU and the old ones and investigates the expectations of the negotiating members through the following topics: opening of frontiers\/mobility, European labour market, European cultural identities and diversities of new and old members.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DeTALES brings together adult learners from the oldest members Italy, Germany and UK to interact with the new ones Lithuania, Hungary (2004), Bulgaria (2007) and Turkey by involving actively adults, through sharing and bringing stories using low cost digital devices.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;yes&#8221; type=&#8221;grid&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h6>PROJECT AIM<\/h6>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=&#8221;normal&#8221;][vc_column_text] To promote the integration of adults from EU countries and encourage civic engagement by sharing information about EU enlargement.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h6>PROJECT OBJECTIVES<\/h6>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=&#8221;normal&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To create training materials to support the rapprochement of adults of the other EU countries by transferring knowledge on EU-enlargement topics.<\/li>\n<li>To improve digital competences.<\/li>\n<li>To raise civic competences.<\/li>\n<li>To encourage intercultural dialogue among EU members.<\/li>\n<li>To encourage adults to use the training materials on their own.<\/li>\n<li>To encourage participation of disadvantage people in lifelong learning (LLL).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h6>PROJECT TARGET GROUPS<\/h6>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=&#8221;normal&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>The project is addressed to adult educators and adults from socially vulnerable groups (people with lower levels of education, retirees, the unemployed, immigrants, and single mothers).<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h6>PROJECT ACTIVITIES<\/h6>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=&#8221;normal&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong>Qualitative Research of Target Groups<\/strong><br \/>\nA qualitative study was conducted in the project partner countries from January to August 2011 to assess the learning environment, IT competencies, and understanding of EU enlargement (identity, enlargement, mobility, labor market, civic engagement) among target groups. In Bulgaria, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, and Germany, seniors were surveyed, while in Italy, Hungary, and Turkey, the survey targeted less-educated adults aged 35\u201354.<br \/>\nAlthough the respondent groups were very diverse, similar trends were observed in their answers to questions on the most relevant topics. In pursuit of this project\u2019s objectives, an understanding of identity within the European context was crucial\u2014the majority of respondents defined Europe as a blend of cultures that exist independently yet simultaneously influence one another, forming a unity grounded in tolerance and shared cultural values. This understanding also led to the conviction among most respondents that the EU should be open to all EU cultures and ideas, as well as a desire to learn more about other European countries and cultures. Openness to other cultures and values is also reflected in the high level of mobility noted among respondents, particularly those from the older EU member states. The study revealed lower labor market mobility, but this could be explained by the characteristics of the target group\u2014low-skilled adults, older workers, and seniors, who are less inclined to take risks by moving to another country for work.<br \/>\nEqually significant is the respondents\u2019 concern regarding the EU\u2019s ability to address current challenges. Although its citizens remain open to the accession of other countries to the EU, the current economic crisis has raised many questions and heightened uncertainty. The guide was used during training sessions for target groups.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trainer Training<\/strong><br \/>\nA trainer training session was held in Denizli, Turkey, from September 16 to 20, 2011. Several trainers were selected and trained from each country participating in the project; they later conducted training sessions for the target groups. During the training, the trainers were introduced to the innovative digital storytelling methodology and its application in the teaching process, and analyzed topics related to EU enlargement. All trainers gained hands-on experience with the digital storytelling creation process and created their own stories on the topic of EU enlargement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"cdk-visually-hidden ng-star-inserted\"><strong>Training for Target Groups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"cdk-visually-hidden ng-star-inserted\">From November 2011 to May 2012, training sessions for target groups\u2014seniors and low-skilled adults aged 35\u201354\u2014were held in the project partner countries. Personal stories relate to specific, broad themes such as the opening of borders, the European labor market, and cultural differences. They capture the storytellers&#8217; understanding of this process and its impact on the country.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\">The aim of this Guide is to provide learners with an innovative methodology for sharing opinions and stories about EU enlargement and to encourage others to do the same. The Guide will assist the learner throughout the digital storytelling process and help develop video editing competencies. The material will also be useful for learning how to write a story, digitize it, and share one&#8217;s experience with others.
