Development of Creativity: Research and Methodology

Project aim

This project aims to contribute to systematic approach of creativity development at school, starting with the Lithuanian language and literature classes. The essence of the project - to encourage development of creative thinking, which allows to improve the thinking in the right direction and should become a universal aspiration.

 
Project objective
To perform the research of the status of creative thinking education, to create the methodology, education and methodical materials of creative thinking and disseminate them at the national level.
 
Project participants and target groups
Primary school teachers, teaching Lithuanian language, Lithuanian language teachers of basic schools and gymnasiums and school administration.

Project activities
The research of creative thinking education environment at school
The study of favorable environment is one of the key components of creativity education. To develop an appropriate research instrument, initially it was analyzed and summarized similar studies in Lithuania and abroad, then developed and described the original survey instrument. The interview of teachers and school administration revealed the general panorama of creativity education in Lithuania and showed how many and what opportunities have Lithuanian language teachers.

The analysis of education programs and training materials
There has been prepared the unified methodology of analysis and basing on it training materials available and use in 4th, 8th and 11th grades analyzed at project partners schools. Analysis has answered the question - how and to what degree creativity is stimulate in education programs and training materials, how much attention is paid for it. This analysis helped to evaluate critically available materials and  became a valuable source of information for developers of new programs and training materials.

Lessons observation
There has been prepared the methodology of lessons observation and lessons have been observed at 4th, 8th and 11th grades classes. The data have been summarized and compared. The data allowed to drawn conclusions how creative thinking is realized during Lithuanian language lessons in practice.

A qualitative study
The first part of the study - interviewing of teachers. The study aimed to examine 4th, 8th and 11th grades teachers' attitudes towards creativity education situation, conditions and assumptions at native language classes. Students have made in writing creative activities that have been analyzed to find out how students think and how their thinking is reflected in the performance of tasks, what are the similarities, differences and general tendencies at 4th, 8th, 11th grades.
Summary of the survey

Development of creativity education methodology
It will be a methodology common for all classes, providing practical examples from various educational concentres (primary, basic and gymnasium). It will be a tool for successful application of creativity techniques and strategies in reading, writing, discussion, improvising during the Lithuanian language and literature lessons. Methodology will be tested during workshops and lessons and feedback will help to improve it for the final version.
Developed creativity education methodology will be presented in 10 Lithuanian municipalities.

 
Project results
The carried out creativity education status will became the basis of original creativity education methodology for Lithuanian language lessons. The methodology will cover the various different sectors and provide educational materials, which will be applicable at all levels of education.
 
Project sustainability

Project products will be available to all schools in Lithuania. Survey results, methodology, educational materials for students and teachers will be available to all teachers on the web. Project partner organizations will be responsible for the dissemination and continuation of the project. Creativity education methodology will be implemented in schools participating in the project. Developed research methodology and tools will become a model for creativity education analysis, implementation and development in other educational programs. Also there is a possibility to develop a qualification improvement program for teachers.
